Before I Change My Mind

Post-screening Q+A with director/co-writer Trevor Anderson, co-producer Alyson Richards, and Hamilton resident and star Vaughan Murrae! Moderated by Lisa Crawford!

In 1987, other students wonder if new kid Robin is a boy or a girl, as Robin forges a complicated bond with the school bully and makes increasingly dangerous choices to fit in.

TREVOR ANDERSON – he/him – Director, Screenwriter, Executive Producer, “Mr. Anderson”

Trevor is a writer-director-actor and former video store clerk whose short films have been presented at many international festivals. His work has screened three times at Sundance and twice at the Berlinale, where his musical The Man That Got Away (2012) won the D.A.A.D. Short Film Prize. His western The Little Deputy (2015) and his science fiction horror Docking (2019) both premiered at Sundance, and were named to Canada’s Top Ten by the Toronto International Film Festival. Before I Change My Mind is Trevor’s first feature film.

ALYSON RICHARDS – she/her – Producer, “Redneck / Moderately Successful Businesswoman”

Alyson wrote and produced the feature film The Retreat, which was released by Quiver Distribution in May of 2021 and premiered on Showtime/Hulu: it was named a Globe & Mail critic’s pick; NBC called it a “lesbian slasher that explores queer vulnerability – and revenge;” and, Conde Nast’s them said it’s the “lesbian slasher movie you were waiting for.” Other work includes: producing the award-winning dark comedy Don’t Talk to Irene starring Oscar-winner Geena Davis (TIFF, Austin Film Festival); the dark comedy Guidance (TIFF, New York Times critic’s pick, Netflix); the feature documentary Quality Balls (Hot Docs, Showtime); and, Trevor Anderson’s short film Docking (Sundance, TIFF Canada’s Top Ten.) Alyson has directed two award-winning short films, A Birthday Story and Trashed, and is co- writing a pilot for New Metric Media (Letterkenney, Bad Blood.) She is currently producing the second season of Children Ruin Everything for CTV and the Roku Channel.

VAUGHAN MURRAE – they/them – “Robin”

Fresh to the screen-acting scene, Vaughan tackled the role of “Kat” for seasons one and two of the popular Shaftesbury Kids STEAM web series Solutioneers, directed by Kat Webber. Furthering their relationship with Shaftesbury Kids, Vaughan can also be seen on the production company’s YouTube channel as themself, hosting fun, creative, boredom-busting activities for youth. Past work includes season two of Apple TV+’s adaptation of Ghostwriter, where Vaughan played a guest role as “Sloane,” the mysterious new kid at school.


Lisa was born in Durban, South Africa. After living in Curacao in the Caribbean for 20 years, she emigrated to Canada in 2007. In 2016, she followed her childhood dream to be part of the film industry. In 2017, she took acting lessons and earned her first role on “Captured”. She went on to play various roles in TV & web series. In 2018, Lisa ventured into film making and produced her first two films “Death Game” & “What if?” Since then, she has produced several other projects including the comedy series, Pink Is In.
