Beyond the Podium: Celebrating Canadian Women Champions

World Premiere! Filmmakers in attendance!

Meet the humans behind the heroes in the groundbreaking, new documentary film – Beyond The Podium: Celebrating Canadian Women Champions – written and directed by award-winning, Hamilton-born filmmaker Brenda Whitehall.

Featuring 15 of Canada’s top women winter athletes, Beyond The Podium delves deeper than traditional sports interviews – tackling rarely addressed human interest subjects like racism, infertility, depression and anxiety, safe sport, and discrimination.

Produced by a women-identifying, Canadian filmmaking team in three provinces and 20 locations – including interviews in Hamilton’s historic Stewart Memorial Church and Dundurn Castle – the athletes offered exclusive access to their professional and private lives, sharing personal family photos and videos, and stories they’ve never publicly revealed.

“Beyond the Podium showcases a stunning array of A-list female athletes who speak not only about their success in their sport but also about the challenges and triumphs in their lives, ranging from gender inequity, mental health, racism and body image. I have seldom heard such brave and honest stories which give such inspiration and strength.”
